Giulia Rancati is a cell and evolutionary biologist. She is Senior Principal Investigator at the Institute of Medical Biology, A*STAR, Principal Investigator at the Biotransformation Platform for Innovation, A*STAR, Singapore and an EMBO Young Investigator. The long-term goal of her lab is to understand cellular evolvability in mechanistic terms. Her research programme has important implications for our understanding of the design principles of cellular systems as well as for both medical and synthetic biology applications. Among her scientific contributions, she showed how eukaryotic cells adaptively evolve in response to extreme genetic perturbations and the consequences of large-scale genome changes (aneuploidy) on the cellular phenotype.
