The National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading global university centred in Asia and internationally recognised for its research and teaching excellence. NUS is commencing an international search to recruit a new Director for the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore (CSI). CSI is one of Singapore’s five designated Research Centres of Excellence established by the National Research Foundation and the Ministry of Education to spur research excellence in the local universities.
Launched in October 2008, CSI conducts basic and translational cancer studies by adopting a multifaceted approach to cancer research extending from basic mechanistic studies all the way to experimental therapeutics. The Director will report to the Deputy President (Research and Technology). The Director will lead efforts in catalysing world-class research in cancer science by building on prevailing academic strengths and research competencies, attracting top global academic cancer research talent, fostering outstanding international scientific collaborations, and offering quality training to nurture young innovative cancer researchers.
Candidates must hold an M.D. or Ph.D, and must be eligible for faculty appointment at the full Professor level. Candidates should be internationally recognised leaders in their respective academic fields, as evidenced by such criteria as prestigious awards, multiple publications in top-tier journals, plenary presentations at international meetings, editorial positions on leading journals, and service on scientific panels. In addition, the ideal candidate should have a proven track record of providing strong strategic and research leadership in academia, and leading translational research in collaboration with industry, national and international agencies. Excellent communication skills and evidence of success in leading a research centre are essential to the role.
