The annual international flagship conference for cancer science in Singapore returned on the 7 – 9 November 2016. The 8th Frontiers in Cancer Science (FCS) featured an impressive program with 2 keynote speakers, 12 international speakers and 16 local speakers over the span of 3 days.

This meeting kicked off with a remembrance of CSI Singapore Senior Principal Investigator Professor Lorenz Poellinger who was the chairman of FCS organizing committee. Prof Poellinger was one of the original founding members of CSI and had been instrumental in many of the CSI management committees, in which his experience, scientific excellence and willingness to contribute were deeply appreciated. As a tribute to him, the first keynote talk by Professor William Kaelin was named “Lorenz Poellinger Keynote Talk”
Prof Kaelin, Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, gave an insightful keynote talk into his research group’s latest findings on Von Hippel Lindau Syndrome (VHL).
In addition to a poster presentation contended by 62 abstracts selected from a highly competitive pool of submissions, FCS 2016 added a new oral presentation segment. In this segment, 6 excellent abstracts were chosen to deliver a 10 minutes presentation to nearly 700 international and local delegates.
“This conference was comprehensive and covered a broad range of topics in cancer biology and therapeutics. I am most impressed by some of the talks especially the ones by keynote speakers. This conference is definitely one of the top ones among the conferences I have attended in the Asia Pacific region.” – Best Oral Presentation Award Recipient, Yan Mingfei from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
