NUS hosted Mr Deval Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and delegates from the US on 16 December 2013.
The visitors included Mr Gregory Bialecki, Secretary of Housing and Economic Development, Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Co-Chair, Board of Directors, Massachusetts Life Sciences Center; Dr Susan Windham-Bannister, President and CEO, Massachusetts Life Sciences Center; and Mr Michael Greeley, General Partner of venture investor Foundation Medical Partners.
The guests were received by Prof Daniel Tenen, Director, Cancer Science Institute (CSI) of Singapore and Dr Andre Wan, Research Director, Office of the Deputy President (Research and Technology) at NUS. In his presentation, Dr Wan provided an overview of NUS and some of its research developments. This was followed by an interactive session between the US delegation and NUS representatives where possible academic and industry collaborations were discussed.
After this, the visitors toured CSI Singapore and Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) facilities housed within the Centre for Translational Medicine. The guests expressed great interest in the research and translational work being conducted at the Institutes.
The event ended with an exchange of mementoes and photo-taking.
